Compare this to how, over in the tie-in series “Superior Avengers,” Doom has brought together many villains and recruited them to form a new Avengers team. The current run on “West Coast Avengers” also features the Avengers welcoming Ultron into their ranks. Apparently, at Marvel Comics, now is the hour of the bad guy.

See the cover for “One World Under Doom” #3, drawn by Ben Harvey, below as the Avengers and Masters stand united:

The Avengers team up with the Masters of Evil to free One World Under Doom

The comic opens with the Avengers and the Masters discussing their plans; they may be allies against a common foe, but they’re not friends. Iron Man has to assure Doc Ock and M.O.D.O.K. that they can’t try any bad guy business; the Avengers’ base is mind-control-proof.

The sadistic Arcade (who, in one of this earliest appearances back in “Uncanny X-Men” #145-147, teamed up with Doom himself) surprisingly takes the moral high ground. He asks why the Avengers haven’t already done something about Doom, earning a death glare from Thor until Storm intervenes.

Captain Marvel explains that, while Doom has developed countermeasure after countermeasure for the Avengers, the Masters are all six wild cards. Mysterio is incredulous that all the Avengers have in mind is attacking Doom until he falls, but Scarlet Witch explains this will distract Doom from the Avengers’ real plan.

However, with six more issues of “One World Under Doom” to go, it seems hard to believe that even the Avengers/Masters team-up can take down Doom’s dictatorship (for now).
